Wesley Mission Center | Rendon, TX
The community of Rendon is located off Farm Road 1187 about 12 miles southeast of downtown Fort Worth and 8 miles west of Mansfield in southern Tarrant County. Rendon was primarily a small farming community until the late 1990s when development along the I-35W corridor and urban sprawl from Fort Worth generated a housing boom. The Rendon school was consolidated with the Mansfield Independent School District in 1967, and the two cities share other resources as well.
The Wesley Mission Center offers and receives assistance from people who live in the Mansfield Independent School District, and surrounding area including: Alvarado, Arlington, Burleson, Cedar Hill, Dalworthington Gardens, Everman, Forest Hill, Fort Worth, Grand Prairie, Kennedale, Mansfield, Midlothian, Pantego, Rendon, and Venus.
Serving Rendon Families
The Wesley Mission Center opened in 1979 in downtown Mansfield, and several years later relocated to 777 N Walnut Creek Dr, Mansfield, TX 76063. “The Thrift Store” was built to house the resale shop and the funds generated were use to help our neighbors in Rendon. Over the years the Thrift Store became The Wesley Mission Center, built a 5,000-square-foot building, expanded to 10,000 square feet, and grew in volunteers, staff, revenue, programming, and community impact.
Today The Wesley Mission Center offers:
A Thrift Store that funds its operations and many of its programs so that every dollar donated can be used to help people in the Rendon and surrounding community.
More than 200 volunteers - some from Rendon - and a need for many more! (see How Can I Help)
Emergency Financial Assistance and Food Pantry to help those who are in crisis.
Interventions and programs to help people make lasting, positive changes in their lives. This includes Job Programs, Financial Education Programs, leadership development, individual case management, and much more.
Summer Reading Program
The Summer Reading Program at The Wesley Mission Center is done in partnership with Common Ground Network Inc. and the Mansfield Public Library, in conjunction with the “Feed the Kids for Summer” program. Children receive free books along with their food bags. Their reading minutes are logged, and the children earn rewards based on their reading accomplishments.
Rendon, TX, Area Partners
With the help of local partners, like those for the Summer Reading Program, The Wesley Mission Center assists those in need with financial assistance, resources, and customized action plans which focus on intervention and prevention methods.
Donations from residents in Rendon also are essential to our ministry. Revenue generated through gently used household items, furniture, accessories, clothing, electronics, and toys helps the Thrift Store fund operations and many of the programs. Food and hygiene items are always needed!
